In House Alterations

We have been doing alterations on site at Copperfield for over 35 years.

We started with one tailor on site who would carry out minor alterations to customers suits that were purchased. A trend then started to appear with clients and walk-ins bringing in other suits and garments purchased from elsewhere that needed tailoring.

This was the norm for a few years, but then as other clothing brands began to open stores in the City of London our alteration business began to grow.

Fast Forward to current day and we now have a handful of tailors on site carrying out 100’s of alterations a week for various high street brands and bespoke tailors.

On a daily basis we cover all of the usual alterations you would normally assume in a tailors shop - Shorten legs, taper legs, take in waist, side seams on jackets, shorten sleeves. With more and more people dressing down in the City (certainly on a Friday) we have seen a rise in casual wear alterations. Lots of clients want the perfect length on there jeans or that casual shirt fitted in a certain way. Jeans tend to be very expensive in todays fashion world with brands easily charging in excess of £150 a pair so the client who pays that money, wants them to look a certain way. We can shorten jeans normally or we now get asked a lot for ‘original finish’ which means the original hem at the bottom of the jeans may have some wear or has been stone washed and has a certain ‘patina’, it is basically taken off the jean, the jean is then shortened and the original hem is re-attached.

Obviously we are a mens store predominately selling mens off the peg suits and accessories but we do have a handful of Lady clients who bring us their newly purchased items to have tailored on a regular basis. This can be a piece from one of the major fashion brands that they want completely re-styled or it could be something as simple as a shortening to a dress. We can perform alterations to wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, evening dresses and gowns.

There isn’t much in the way of tailoring that we haven’t seen at Copperfield over the last 30 odd years, so if you think your wardrobe needs a re-style, give us a call and let’s see what can be done.
